    Workplace health and safety

Powerlink has a well-established safety culture, with safety regarded as a priority by all staff. We aim for zero accidents and safety is systematically and actively integrated into all work we do.

Our corporate Health and Safety Strategy has a number of positive flow-on impacts for the business including:

    • enhancing the existing culture, involvement and teamwork
    • contributing to the continuous improvement of work practices and the reduction of human error
    • improving cost control through asset protection and efficient conservation of human resources.

We’ve developed a number of programs designed to support our work philosophy that health and safety is a shared responsibility including the:

    • Hazard Management and Audit Program
    • Safety is a Core Life Value Program
    • SunSafe Program
    • Flu Busters Program.

To help reinforce an industry-wide safety message, Powerlink is represented on several safety advisory groups associated with the Energy Networks Association (ENA) and Standards Australia

    Community and environment

Responsible environmental management is also integral to our business success and our ability to meet our customers’ demands for a reliable power supply.

Our network passes through many diverse environments— from lush World Heritage rainforest, to arid plains and bustling residential suburbs.

Constructing, operating and maintaining this network to meet the expectations of Queenslanders means we are challenged and empowered to protect, enhance and respect the environment.

Powerlink is committed to building trust and partnerships with communities, joining with them in environmental projects and supporting programs that aid in job creation. Working together has built relationships that have led to practical, hands-on solutions that offer the best possible outcome for both communities and Powerlink.

Powerlink staff also support a number of community activities and events such as Shave for A Cure, International Women’s Day and World Environment Day, and a team of employees run a number of fundraising and volunteer support days each Christmas.
