  • Fire affects high voltage powerlines near Greenbank

    22 October

A fire in the Greenbank area has affected two high voltage transmission lines, resulting in a momentary electrical fault just after 6:30pm.

Powerlink Queensland’s Chief Executive Merryn York has said no bulk electricity load was disconnected from Powerlink’s high-voltage network as a result of the electrical faults caused by the fire, however customers in parts of Brisbane and the South East Queensland region may have experienced a brief voltage dip at the time of the electrical fault.

“While Powerlink’s electricity network operated as designed and in accordance with the National Electricity Rules, isolating the lines in the vicinity of the fire to prevent any permanent damage to those lines, we understand that some customers’ electrical systems may not have withstood the brief voltage dip and sensitive electrical  equipment of some of those customers may have been interrupted,” Ms York said.

“The fires are still burning in the area, Powerlink has been advised by the Queensland Fire Service that they are in attendance, but until the fire is under control or moves away from the transmission network there is an ongoing risk of further voltage dips.

“Powerlink representatives have been dispatched to site and will liaise with Fire and Rescue personnel and continue to monitor the situation.

“We thank customers for their patience while this situation continues,” she said.
