Sustainability
In addition to our land and environmental management practices, we’ve also implemented changes at our head office in Virginia, Brisbane to make more efficient use of resources, such as:
- Sustainable procurement initiatives including being actively involved in the Sustainable Procurement Energy Committee (SPEC), and developing an environmental compliance and sustainability survey and matrix to use as part of our tender documents. This inclusion means we can make choices in terms of whole of life cost, product quality, environmental compliance, as well as the typical financial considerations.
- Waste management and various recycling initiatives to minimise our resource usage. We recycle a range of our business-related waste, including transformer oil, scrap metals, electronic equipment such as information technology, telecommunications equipment, small appliances and rechargeable batteries. We also routinely audit our waste and recycling activities to identify areas for improvement.
- Energy reduction activities include turning computers off at night, changing lighting and data centre power saving strategies. Our Motor Vehicle Fleet Environmental Policy is in line with the Queensland Government’s QFleet Climate Smart Policy, and where possible we selectively replace vehicles for those with a smaller engine capacity to reduce vehicle emissions. We also regularly offset our fleet and air travel emissions through state based abatement initiatives.
- Water efficiency upgrades including the retrofitting of plumbing devices, installation of water tanks and changes to internal and external irrigation.
