QNI upgrade study
In 2008, Powerlink and TransGrid investigated if and when an upgrade to the Queensland/New South Wales Interconnector (QNI) would be economically justified under the AER’s Regulatory Test.
The Final Report concluded it was premature to recommend an augmentation to the QNI, however more recent studies by Powerlink and TransGrid have investigated further options to increase the capability of the QNI. These studies include the option of increasing the QNI’s capability by 25 per cent using technology new to Australia. This option will be thoroughly evaluated and formal consultation will be undertaken with interested parties in 2012.
