Bowen Central Coal Management Pty Ltd (BCCM) has applied for a connection to Powerlink’s transmission network, south-east of Moranbah, through the establishment of a 132kV switching station. A proposed site for the new switching station has been identified, to the east of Winchester Road, Moranbah, adjacent to Powerlink’s existing 132kV network.
The new switching station will supply a customer-owned substation (BCCM), and will provide high voltage electricity for the proposed Eagle Downs Mine.
Powerlink received Ministerial designation for the project in December 2011.
In 2011, Powerlink appointed specialist environmental consultant Aurecon to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project. As part of the EIA, Aurecon prepared an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), following input from the community and other stakeholders. The Final EIS was published in August 2011.
