To ensure a reliable supply of high voltage electricity is maintained to Far North Queensland, Powerlink Queensland is proposing to replace its existing Collinsville Substation, which was established in the 1960s.
It is proposed to build the replacement substation on Powerlink-owned land adjacent to the existing Collinsville Substation site, in the vicinity of the Collinsville Power Station.

Powerlink has also started the next stage of its Government-approved process under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009. This involves obtaining Ministerial designation, whereby Powerlink will seek the approval of a State Government Minister to identify the land required for the project as ‘community infrastructure’. Public notices regarding the proposal to seek Ministerial designation have also appeared in local newspapers. Please find a copy of the Designation advertisement in the Newsletters and Notices section below. Submissions on the proposal for Ministerial designation for the Collinsville Substation Replacement (Collinsville North) Project will close on Wednesday 15 May 2012.
