BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has requested Powerlink establish a new 132kV switching station at Moranbah to supply a new substation for the expansion of its Goonyella Riverside Mine.
Construction commenced in July 2011 and is expected to be completed mid 2012.
During 2010, Powerlink appointed specialist environmental consultant RPS to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project. As part of the EIA, RPS prepared an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), following input from the community and other stakeholders. The Final EIS was published in December 2010. This document can be downloaded from the Environmental documents page. Powerlink received Ministerial designation for the project during June 2011.
