The existing substation at Belmont is being upgraded to ensure a reliable electricity supply is maintained to customers in South East Queensland. All works are being carried out entirely within Powerlink-owned land.
Work is now complete on the fourth and final stage of the project, encompassing the replacement of any remaining aged equipment and the testing of all new equipment. Site remediation works are now underway and are expected to be completed by February 2012.
A Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), including a Final Environmental Management Plan, which includes a Town Planning review and assessment, was prepared in August 2007. This document can be downloaded from the Environmental documents page. Ministerial designation was received for this project in December 2007. Construction works, which began in August 2008, are being completed over multiple stages.
