Ferny Hills Substation
Overview
Powerlink and ENERGEX have identified a new substation will need to be established at Ferny Hills by around 2017 to ensure a reliable supply of high voltage electricity is maintained to the area.
Due to the potential for ongoing development in the local area, Powerlink has secured a site for the future substation on the southern side of Samford Road, about 500m west of the Australian Woolshed.
This property was identified as being the most suitable site in the area as it’s already traversed by Powerlink’s existing 110kV transmission line between South Pine and Upper Kedron, is largely obscured from public view by vegetation, has convenient access to existing ENERGEX lines, and will require minimal vegetation management to accommodate the future substation.
Closer to the time of construction of the future substation, a specialist environmental consultant will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment process.
Status
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process is expected to commence in about 2013.
