South Pine to Sandgate
Overview
To meet the growing demand for electricity in the north-eastern Brisbane areas, Powerlink has constructed a new 275kV transmission line to reinforce electricity supply between its South Pine Substation at Brendale and ENERGEX’s Sandgate substation near Deagon. The majority of the new line was built beside an existing ENERGEX powerline which runs between these two substations.
A short section of the 9km line (about 2km) was placed underground where there was insufficient room for an overhead transmission line.
The new transmission line will meet the growing demand for electricity in and around the north-eastern Brisbane areas of Boondall, Bracken Ridge, Brighton, Shorncliffe, Taigum, Sandgate, Deagon, Bridgeman Downs and Bald Hills.
Status
This project is now complete.
In 2007, Powerlink appointed specialist environmental consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project, which was completed in November 2007 following the release of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). This document can be downloaded from the Environmental documents page.
Construction commenced in late 2008.
Towers for the new transmission line were erected starting from the South Pine Substation end of the line. These towers were treated with a special non-reflective coating.
