Powerlink has been requested by Australia Pacific LNG Pty Limited (APLNG) to supply high voltage electricity to three gas compression facilities south of the Columboola Switching Station (located about 9km east of Miles). To meet this request, Powerlink is constructing a 132kV switching station at each facility and a new 132kV transmission line to connect these sites with the Columboola Switching Station.
Transmission line component – Powerlink received Ministerial designation for this component of the project in September 2012 with construction under way.
Switching station component – Construction commenced progressively from May 2012 and is ongoing following Powerlink receiving Ministerial designation for this component of the project in late 2011.
In early 2011, environmental specialist Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) began the comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment for the project, which included the preparation of separate EIS reports for both the transmission line and switching station component.
The Final EIS reports for each component were completed later that year and can be downloaded from the Environmental documents page as outlined below.
