Powerlink has been requested by Australia Pacific LNG Pty Limited (APLNG) to supply high voltage electricity to three gas compression facilities south of the Columboola Switching Station (located about 9km east of Miles). To meet this request, Powerlink is proposing to construct a 132kV switching station at each facility and a new 132kV transmission line to connect these sites with the Columboola Switching Station.
No decision will be made regarding the final alignment of the proposed transmission line or the suitability of the switching station sites until a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and related consultation has been completed.
Transmission line component – The Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was published in December 2011. Powerlink is inviting submissions on its intention to seek Ministerial designation for this component of the project. Details about how to make a submission can be downloaded from the Newsletters & Notices page. Switching station component – The Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was published in July 2011 and can be downloaded from the Environmental documents page. Following the application for Ministerial designation made in August 2011, Powerlink received approval for the project in late 2011.
Powerlink appointed specialist environmental consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project which includes the preparation of separate EIS reports for both the transmission line and switching station component. The Final EIS reports for each component can be downloaded from the Environmental documents page as outlined above.
