Powerlink and Ergon Energy have identified the need for a new 275kV transmission line between the Western Downs Substation (near Kogan Creek Power Station), and the proposed Columboola Substation (adjacent to and connecting in to the Columboola Switching Station near Miles). A new 100m wide easement will be required for this proposed transmission line, with additional space for a future line to meet longer-term electricity needs in the region.
This project is the second stage of a broader plan to extend the existing high voltage electricity transmission network into the growing South West region. The first stage of the plan commenced in early 2010. For more information about Stage 1, refer to the Columboola to Wandoan South project. No decision will be made regarding the final alignment of the proposed transmission line or the suitability of the substation sites until a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and related consultation has been completed.
Powerlink is inviting submissions on its intention to seek Ministerial designation for the project. Further information about how to make a submission can be downloaded from the Newsletters & notices page. The Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project was published in December 2011. This document can be downloaded from the Environmental documents page. We would like to thank everyone who made a submission on the Draft EIS and who contributed to the Environmental Impact Assessment process undertaken by specialist environmental consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) from late 2010.
