Powerlink has been requested by Xstrata Coal Queensland (XCQ) to establish a direct connection into the high voltage transmission network to supply power to its proposed coal mine west of Wandoan. To meet this request, Powerlink is proposing to establish a 132kV concrete pole powerline from its future Wandoan South Substation to XCQ’s proposed Wandoan Coal Mine Substation (on XCQ-owned land).
Powerlink has commenced a project to identify an alignment for the proposed powerline. A Study Corridor for the proposed line has been identified as a starting point for detailed investigations and discussions with potentially affected landowners and stakeholders.
Powerlink has appointed specialist environmental consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to undertake the Environmental Impact Assessment for the project. Consultation with landowners, interested members of the community and key stakeholders will form an important part of this process.
No decision about the final alignment of the proposed powerline will be made until comprehensive environmental investigations and related consultation activities have been completed.
