  • Fire and transmission line safety

Fire burning beneath or near transmission lines or substations can endanger people, animals, and objects, and has the potential to interrupt electricity supply to customers.

If you see a fire burning near our lines or substations, call 000 immediately. Please also notify Powerlink on 1800 353 031, even if you’re unsure what risk the fire poses.

    • You can tell if it’s one of our transmission lines by the identification label located on the transmission tower leg.
    • It’s important you seek our advice and approval as early as possible before undertaking any activity involving our lines by calling 1800 353 031.
    • If you’re involved in fire management or control activities, please follow the additional safety information contained in the National Guidelines on Electrical Safety for Emergency Personnel.

We’ve also developed an information sheet outlining safety procedures relating to fire which can be downloaded below.
