In late 2009, Powerlink completed works to remove a 20km section of a decommissioned 132kV transmission line which ran between Powerlink's Woree Substation (on Maconachie Street, Woree) and the Turkinje Substation, south of Mareeba.
Recent upgrades to the high voltage electricity network in the region meant this 45-year old transmission line was no longer required. The line had been de-energised and decommissioned, and with the completion of other network upgrades in the region, was able to be removed.
