Community Benefits Programs

communitybenefitsprogram.jpgFor more than ten years, Powerlink’s Community Benefits Program has provided funding for selected community projects that provide tangible and lasting benefits to local communities in proximity to new transmission lines.

Through the Community Benefit’s Program, we aim to partner with local groups to deliver benefits and important facilities and services to communities near our assets.

Funding provided through the Community Benefits Program is separate, and in addition to, compensation that is paid directly to landowners affected by new transmission line easements and is allocated to selected community projects that can demonstrate broad community support.

During 2009, Powerlink provided funding for more than 75 worthwhile community projects through five Community Benefits Programs. Projects funded included electrical renovations to club houses, upgrading lighting to sports fields, constructing wheelchair ramps at local halls, installing GPS units in Rural Fire Brigade vehicles, purchasing shade structures for local schools, and purchasing lights for helipads used by SES crews.
