TransGrid and Powerlink have conducted joint planning investigations about if and when an upgrade to the Queensland/New South Wales Interconnector (QNI) would be economically justified under the AER’s Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T).
A Project Assessment Conclusions Report (PACR) has been prepared and issued in accordance with the requirements of the National Electricity Rules.
The cost-benefit analysis contained in the PACR has not identified a preferred credible option. Consequently, the PACR contains a final recommendation to ‘do nothing’ in relation to upgrading QNI power transfer capability.
Powerlink and TransGrid will take into account the latest available information as part of any future RIT-T assessment undertaken.
