Back to Projects

Powerlink refitted our existing Algester to Runcorn transmission line to ensure a safe, reliable and cost effective supply of high voltage electricity continues to be supplied to the Brisbane metropolitan area. The project involved maintenance activities on 18 transmission towers that were built in 1971.

On-ground works took place between April and December 2016 and included strengthening tower foundations, replacing corroded bolts and steelwork, cleaning and painting towers, and restoring anti-climbing barriers. All activities were undertaken in accordance with rigorous environmental management requirements.

Important environmental site in Runcorn gets a boost

In conjunction with this project, Powerlink undertook a community and environment initiative in partnership with the Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C) and St Laurence's College. The initiative improved the environment at St Laurence's College Runcorn Playing Fields, which is adjacent to Bulimba Creek and traversed by the Algester to Runcorn transmission line.
