Powerlink has completed a project to refit 76km of existing electricity transmission line between the Collinsville and Proserpine substations.
The line has been in service for more than 50 years and required refitting to ensure the ongoing safe, reliable and cost effective supply of electricity to the Whitsunday region. The project involved refitting 190 towers on a case-by-case basis. Construction activities included:
Inspections to assess the condition of the transmission line and towers occurred during 2016. The assessments guided the scope of works for the project and associated design methodologies.
Refit works were undertaken in a staged manner over several years, with all activities completed in July 2020. We thank landholders and other stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during these important works.
