Powerlink is currently undertaking a project to refit 76km of existing electricity transmission line between the Collinsville and Proserpine substations.
The line has been in service for more than 50 years and requires refitting to ensure the ongoing safe, reliable and cost effective supply of electricity to the Whitsunday region. The project involves refitting 190 towers on a case-by-case basis. Construction activities may include:
Inspections to assess the condition of the transmission line and towers occurred during 2016. The assessments guided the scope of works for the project and associated design methodologies.
Refit works are expected to be completed progressively in a staged manner along the line during 2020 (weather dependent). Powerlink will continue to work closely with landholders within the project footprint to keep them informed of our activities.
