Overview

The Wambo Wind Farm is a proposed renewable development located near Jandowae, in the Western Downs local government area. Stage 1 of the project proposes 200MW of generating capacity, with 35 turbines. When fully operational, the wind farm will produce enough clean energy to power approximately 170,500 houses annually.

Get involved

We are committed to ongoing genuine and timely engagement with landholders and local communities to support development and delivery of renewable projects connecting to our transmission network.

We will be holding two drop-in sessions in Western Downs and South Burnett in November to discuss future electricity needs for the region. The sessions are informal and will include:

  • Information about the existing electricity transmission network in the region and possible future plans
  • Maps and displays on matters of local interest
  • An opportunity to learn more about project work and ask questions of Powerlink representatives

Status

The Wambo Wind Farm proponents, Cubico and Renewable Energy Partners (REP), received planning approval from the State Government in October 2020. Since then, Powerlink has been in discussion with the proponents in relation to connecting the wind farm to the transmission network in the region.  Powerlink will continue working with Cubico and REP as their project planning progresses.
