A heatwave across Queensland this week led to a new peak operational demand record for electricity delivered across our network of 10,044MW at 5.30pm.
This was 248MW higher than the previous peak operational demand record of 9,796MW set almost exactly a year ago on 14 February 2018.
Our network performed well during the challenging conditions and with no supply demand shortfall.
The later peak demand timing shows the continued impact of rooftop solar PV which declines in output as the sun goes down pushing demand peaks into the evening.
Keeping our network operating safely and reliably in extreme conditions like this is exactly the outcome we plan for and a testament to the great work of our Network Operations and Field Delivery teams.
