Powerlink has been engaged by RWE Renewables Australia (RWE) to connect their proposed Theodore Wind Farm Project, located approximately 20 kilometres (km) east of Theodore in Central Queensland, to the electricity grid.
The connection project will include constructing a new double circuit 275kV transmission line from the Castle Creek Substation within the Theodore Wind Farm, to the proposed future Mt Benn Substation near Banana (which forms part of the Banana Range Wind Farm Connection Project - currently in the planning phase).
The Theodore Wind Farm Project is a renewable energy development planned by RWE. Visit the RWE website for further information about the wind farm.
Powerlink is finalising the location for the new 275kV transmission line easement alignment, seeking required planning and environmental approvals, and will build and maintain the line if it is approved. Powerlink will also seek the necessary approvals for the design and construction of the Castle Creek Substation, located within the wind farm boundary.
Powerlink is applying for planning approval for this project under the Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID) process.
The Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP) has now officially started the formal consultation period on the MID Proposal Report prepared for this project.
This consultation is initiated and managed by the Department and is supported by Powerlink engagement activities, which are now underway.
Consultation on the project’s MID Proposal Report ends at 5pm on Tuesday 24 March 2026.
