Powerlink undertakes regular inspections and maintenance activities of the network, which spans 1700kms from Cairns to the New South Wales border. We do this to ensure the safe and reliable supply of our high voltage electricity to five million Queenslanders.
The latest information regarding any impacts to our network will be available on our Tropical Cyclone Alfred web page and via our social media channels Facebook and X.
Call Triple Zero (000) if you notice a fallen transmission line and the situation is life threatening or requires emergency services. You can also call Powerlink’s emergency hotline on freecall 1800 353 031 to report the issue.
A fallen transmission line should always be treated as ‘live’.
Stay well clear (at least ten metres in distance), and make sure bystanders are also kept back until Emergency Services and/or Powerlink representatives arrive.
Please do not attempt to clear the debris yourself.
If you see transmission infrastructure that has been impacted by debris, or has debris near it, please call Powerlink’s emergency hotline on freecall 1800 353 031 to report it.
Similarly, if visible erosion or flooding is occurring around the base of one of our transmission towers, please contact the number above to report it.
Powerlink continues to carefully monitor the progress of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Gale force winds, flying debris and flooding can impact the high voltage transmission network, and it is difficult to predict where this may occur. Several transmission lines and substations are located in the cyclone impact area and we are ready if there are any impacts to the network.
Ongoing severe weather and road closures can hamper access and make response efforts challenging for crews responding to any impacted areas. Our crews are on standby to respond as soon as it is safe to do so.
As an essential service provider, we understand the importance of restoring power supply and will continue working closely with Energex and Ergon Energy.
In the event of a life-threatening situation, always call Triple Zero (000) and stay well clear of fallen powerlines.
