State Emergency Service (SES) Units in Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac have been given new tools worth $12,460 to help them respond to future emergencies and disasters in the area.
Member for Mirani Jim Pearce represented Police, Fire and Emergency Services Minister Bill Byrne at the official handover at the Beaconsfield Emergency Services Complex today.
Mr Pearce said the new equipment was provided through the Energex, Ergon and Powerlink SES Equipment Program which will see $200,000 worth of equipment delivered to SES Groups around the state this year.
“Vital emergency response equipment has been given to five SES Groups in Mackay and surrounding areas, who are now better-equipped to help their communities when severe weather and emergencies strike,” Mr Pearce said.
“Carmila, Mackay, Clermont, Nebo, and Bowen SES Groups have received a basket stretcher, inverter generators, scene lighting equipment, Incident Command System TAC B Pack, a pole saw and a chainsaw.
“As we head into storm season, the three communities can take some comfort in knowing our dedicated SES volunteers are supported by Ergon, Energex and Powerlink through the provision of this important equipment.
“It will ensure our SES has the tools needed to help their communities prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and emergencies.
Powerlink Chief Executive Merryn York said they were pleased to support the SES and help them continue providing much-needed emergency response and assistance on the ground.
“SES volunteers play an important role in disasters and emergencies when Powerlink is restoring electricity supply,” Ms York said.
“The services delivered by the SES are very important to communities in the Mackay area and we are very happy to boost their capabilities today with this new equipment.
SES Assistant Commissioner (Queensland Fire and Emergency Services) Peter Jeffrey said the SES was grateful to receive this support from Ergon, Energex and Powerlink.
“Our SES volunteers are crucial to helping communities prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and this equipment will benefit the whole community,” Mr Jeffrey said.
“We live in a state that has seen its fair share of severe weather events and the financial support provided through the Energex, Ergon and Powerlink SES Equipment Program ensures SES Groups can continue to help their communities during these difficult and dangerous times.”
