Powerlink Queensland has today announced the appointment of Dr Seán Mc Goldrick as its new Chief Executive, bringing more than three decades of transmission and power system experience to Queensland.
Dr Mc Goldrick becomes the fourth permanent Chief Executive in Powerlink’s 31-year history and will join from 29 June. He is currently the CEO at TasNetworks and has recently announced his departure after five years of leading that organisation.
Powerlink Chair Craig Doyle said Dr Mc Goldrick’s appointment comes as Powerlink embarks on a program of transmission projects critical to Queensland’s energy future.
“Seán’s experience in leading major transmission programs across Australia and internationally strengthens Powerlink’s position of delivering reliable and affordable power to Queenslanders,” Mr Doyle said.
“Maintaining a strong, secure power system while enabling new power generation and storage projects to connect to the network will remain front-and-centre of Powerlink’s work.
“Seán’s leadership will focus on operating the network we have today while building the grid of Queensland’s future in a cost-effective way.
“I also want to thank Interim Chief Executive Darryl Rowell, who has worked tirelessly to ensure the business remained focused over the past seven months.”
Dr Mc Goldrick previously served as TasNetwork’s Chief Executive Officer with experience spanning across TransGrid and Western Power.
His international experience includes senior leadership positions in Europe, Canada and emerging markets. His experience spans transmission planning, asset management, system operations, major project delivery, market design and regulatory engagement.
Incoming Chief Executive Seán Mc Goldrick said he was excited to lead Powerlink into a new chapter.
“Queensland presents an extraordinary opportunity and I’m excited at the prospect of leading a nationally respected transmission network operator,” Dr Mc Goldrick said.
Queensland’s energy transformation is already well underway, and Powerlink sits at the centre – enabling new generation and storage, while operating and maintaining a safe and reliable transmission network.
“We have a responsibility to deliver long-term value through our work and are accountable to the five million Queenslanders who rely on us to deliver affordable and reliable electricity.
“With a large program of work in Central Queensland underway, I look forward to leading Powerlink’s delivery expertise while working closely with industry and local communities.”
