Announced as part of the Energy Roadmap, new Connections Guarantee Key Performance Indicators for Energy Queensland and Powerlink are strengthening transparency and accountability for electricity connections across Queensland.
The Connections Guarantee is backed by a $418 million investment in 2026-27 to support housing delivery, business growth and economic development by improving focus on connection timeframes and making performance easier to understand and track.
It also ensures the transmission network is minimising the cost and time involved in the connection process, enabling new housing developments to be connected sooner to ease Labor’s housing crisis.
The KPI framework will provide clear public reporting on connection performance, helping Queenslanders, developers and industry better understand how performance was tracking.
Treasurer and Minister for Energy David Janetzki said the framework would help get Queenslanders connected sooner, boosting productivity and economic growth.
“Queensland’s growth depends on timely, reliable access to essential infrastructure,” Treasurer Janetzki said.
“We’re fixing the former Labor Government’s housing crisis and Queenslanders should not have to wait longer than necessary to get into their new homes.
“The Energy Roadmap Connections Guarantee will strengthen transparency and accountability for electricity connections, with a clear focus on improving timeframes and supporting housing delivery and economic activity across Queensland.
“The networks will use a simple scorecard of measures so customers and industry can see how they are tracking and improvements can be made where necessary.”
Energy Queensland Chief Executive Officer Craig McCabe said Queensland’s growing population and increasing uptake of new energy technologies were driving demand for faster and more efficient connection processes.
“Queensland is growing quickly, with more new homes, businesses and developments needing electricity connections, while solar, batteries, and electric vehicles can make connections more complex,” Mr McCabe said.
“We’re working to make it quicker and easier for customers to get connected to electricity - whether that’s a new home, a growing business, or a new housing development.”
Powerlink CEO Dr Seán McGoldrick said the Connections Guarantee would improve the connection process across Queensland’s power system and support major generation, storage and industrial projects powering the State’s economy.
“It reinforces our commitment to working collaboratively with proponents to help reduce connection timeframes while maintaining a reliable supply to more than five million Queenslanders,” Dr McGoldrick said.
Energy Queensland’s 2026–27 Connections Guarantee KPI includes completing simple supply-available connections within five days 95 per cent of the time.
There are separate measures for subdivision and developer works, negotiated connections, subdivision timeframe improvements, data quality assurance and public reporting of results, volumes and trends.
Powerlink’s measures cover response times to connection enquiries and performance standard packages, negotiation of access standards and connection delivery.
