Powerlink has awarded a major construction contract to Consolidated Power Projects (CPP) to build part of the critical Calvale to Calliope River Reinforcement Project.
CPP will construct 20km of the new transmission line between Powerlink’s Calliope River Substation (near Gladstone) to a proposed new Gladstone West substation (south of Mount Larcom).
Powerlink’s Chief Executive Dr Seán Mc Goldrick said CPP are well-credentialed in delivering major transmission projects.
“The Calvale to Calliope River Transmission Line Reinforcement Project is critical for preparing our network for the changing energy landscape in Central Queensland,” Dr Mc Goldrick said
“Along with the new transmission line, CPP will also deliver upgrades to our Calliope River Substation and oversee the installation of a 500MVA transformer.
Our work in Central Queensland extends beyond transporting electricity, this infrastructure provides opportunities for local businesses and CPP share that vision.
Approximately 150 workers are forecast to be employed to deliver this body of work, of which 30% are projected to come from Central Queensland communities.
CPP’s General Manager Operations Queensland Andrew Timms said local relationships are key to the successful delivery of the project.
“We understand this project is as much about people as it is about infrastructure – maintaining strong relationships with local business, Traditional Owner groups and the broader public is central to how we deliver,” Mr Timms said.
“We thank Powerlink for their trust in CPP to deliver this work.”
The contract announcement follows Powerlink’s commitment to a Community and Social Investment Program for Central Queensland.
Central Queensland businesses are invited to meet with Powerlink and delivery partners at three sessions to learn more about supply opportunities and tendering tips.
The sessions, delivered in partnership with State Development, will be held at:
- The Club Hotel at Gladstone, on Tuesday, September 8, from 3pm to 5.30pm
- Biloela Bowls Club on Wednesday, September 9, from 3pm to 6pm
- Frenchville Sports Club on Thursday, September 10, from 3pm to 6pm
