Powerlink has commenced post construction weed surveys within easements and along access tracks.

Landholder Relations Manager Murray Abel said Powerlink will be working with landholders regarding the timing of post construction weed surveys and will access individual properties in accordance with agreed land access protocols.

“We have engaged an external independent consultant with strong proven experience in weed surveys to conduct the survey,” Murray said.

“The consultant will collate the information which will allow a condition assessment between pre and post construction activities.

“The comparison will provide an insight into whether there has been any weed dispersion and establishment.

“If the assessment finds there has been weed dispersion caused by Powerlink activities, we will rapidly implement mitigation measures in consultation with the landholder.”

Powerlink implemented robust practices to help prevent and manage weeds during the construction phase to minimise the risk of weed dispersion.

“The post construction weed surveys will help us evaluate our preventative practices and controls, which included detailed work instructions to contractors, workforce inductions, journey planning, and third party certified weed wash downs,” Murray said.

“Information from these important post construction weed surveys will also be factored into relevant weed management practices as part of the maintenance phase.”
