The ongoing severe weather impacts of ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie have extensively damaged ten transmission towers on Powerlink’s network in Central Queensland.

Based on the configuration of Powerlink’s 275kV network in this area, there are no current electricity supply impacts.

Chief Executive Merryn York said aerial inspections this morning had located ten damaged towers on Powerlink’s Broadsound to Nebo transmission line, inland southwest of Mackay.

“Powerlink’s network in this area is configured so that we can continue to provide secure supply to Central and North Queensland via other feeders,” Ms York said.

“We do not currently have supply impacts, nor do we anticipate any impacts, as a result of the damage to these towers.

“We are continuing to fully assess the extent of the damage in this area, which is still affected by heavy rain and wind.

“We must wait until conditions are completely safe for crews to access the area and commence work to allow the transmission circuit to be returned to service.

“Please assume that all downed wires are live. For safety reasons, it is critical you stay away. If you come across a downed powerline, contact 000.”
