More than 560 landholders and stakeholders have downloaded the Let’s Get Weed Wise App since its launch last November as a legacy of the Powerlink and Queensland Murray-Darling Committee (QMDC) partnership targeting weed management in the North West Surat Basin.
The App, produced in tandem with the Let’s Get Weed Wise Pocket Guide, collates the key findings from the comprehensive Integrated Weed Management Strategy that was prepared following consultation with the partnership’s Working Group of landholders and representatives from local and state government, environmental groups, industry, Powerlink and QMDC.
The App is accessible free-of-charge on a range of devices including smartphones, tablets and computers, and includes descriptions and photos of key local weed species, several interactive maps showing current and emerging weed threats, information on how particular weeds spread, and tips on how to prevent further weed dispersion. The App also contains an extensive list of links to other environmental and biosecurity organisations, publications, and electronic resources to help landholders and stakeholders work together to tackle this regional issue.
You can download the App by visiting http://arcg.is/1jBDTOr.
If you would prefer to access this information via a ‘one-stop-shop’ printable document, we encourage you to download a copy of our compact and easy-to-read Pocket Guide (PDF, 1MB). Durable and water resistant hard copies – perfect for taking out in the field or storing in your glove-box – are also available by calling Sandy Robertson from QMDC on (07) 4637 6200.
The Powerlink and QMDC Community Relations Program, which ran during 2015, also delivered a series of community action days, engagement sessions and a regional education campaign. The partnership focused on environmental rehabilitation and weed control in areas impacted by our activities, specifically in the Fairview, Wandoan, Wallumbilla and Yuleba areas.
