Powerlink hosted more than 120 key energy industry and customer representatives to discuss the transformational change happening in the energy industry and the evolving role of Powerlink’s transmission network.

Customers, government, renewable energy proponents and industry representatives attended Powerlink’s annual Transmission Network Forum, gaining an insight into improving network utilisation, the future role of the transmission network and the drive towards a renewable energy future.

Key discussion topics included improving network utilisation to deliver better customer outcomes, development of Powerlink’s transmission network vision and advice to navigate the renewable energy connection process.

Powerlink Chief Executive Merryn York said the Transmission Network Forum provided Powerlink with an opportunity to discuss ongoing industry changes facing the energy sector with key stakeholders.

“The energy industry is undergoing transformational change, so it is vital that we seek the views of our customers to continue to make the best possible decisions and plan for the future,” Ms York said.

“We are focused on how we can best utilise the network for the ongoing cost-effective, reliable and safe delivery of electricity to more than four million Queenslanders.

“A key part of the forum was to gain input on the development our network vision which aims to identify our value proposition to customers for the next 30 years.

“The forum also presented an opportunity for parties looking to connect to Powerlink’s network to better understand recent regulatory changes and improvements in the approach to network connection processes.

“The feedback from interactive sessions at the forum will be factored into Powerlink’s ongoing network planning, and decision making on how the business’ role is changing.”

Ms York said the record level of interest in the forum reinforced the important role the transmission network will play in the future of energy in Queensland.

“It’s an exciting time to be working in our industry and have the opportunity to be part of significant change that will positively impact on our customers," Ms York said.
