As part of our projects in the region we are continuing to work with landholders and other stakeholders in discussing matters that are important to them. Here are some recent questions:

Q. What is the protocol if Powerlink needs to access my property for an emergency situation?

Effective maintenance of our transmission lines, substations and easements is a key part of Powerlink’s commitment to providing a safe and reliable supply of high voltage electricity.

Routine inspections occur for transmission lines annually, while there is an ongoing need to conduct routine maintenance inspections and general maintenance of substations. These activities can be conducted on the ground, from the air using helicopters or a combination of both.

At all times, we will aim to conduct these activities with as little disruption as possible to you and your property, and in accordance with agreed access arrangements.

If you have requested us to, we will notify you before accessing your property to undertake routine maintenance inspections. In all cases, we will contact you and nearby affected landholders in advance of more significant planned works.

There may, however, be times when we are unable to provide advance notice, such as when unexpected electrical faults occur. This can require after-hours access to manage emergency situations. Powerlink will, however, contact you as soon as possible if emergency access is required.

Q. What is the process regarding weed surveys after construction has been completed?

Post construction surveys are conducted immediately after construction is completed, as well as after the first wet season (the timing of which is subject to an appropriate rainfall event). These surveys provide a condition assessment between pre and post construction activities.

This comparison provides an insight into the actual impact of construction activities on weed dispersion and establishment. If required, Powerlink will rapidly implement mitigation measures in consultation with the landholder and/or Local Government.
