If you were up early in Townsville this morning, you might have spotted a transformer travelling slowly from South Townsville to our new substation at Kelso. A special truck and multi-axle trailer was used to transport the 110 tonne transformer.
Safety is essential and a traffic management plan minimised traffic interruptions and ensured community safety.
The transformer will play a critical role in connecting the Ross River Solar Farm to our transmission network in the coming months. The project involves building a new bay at the Ross Substation, constructing a new Powerlink substation adjacent to the solar farm yard and installing 1.2km of 132kV underground transmission line cable to link the two sites.
