The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team recently enhanced our Reputation and Influence by showing the Southern Queensland Land Rehabilitation Group (SQLRG) around two of our more challenging sites.

Senior Environmental Advisor, Ariane, said the visits gave about 60 people some great insights into the rehabilitation efforts PQ has made at Blackstone Substation and at a pole site near the Brisbane River at Karalee.

“Many people may not know how difficult it was to build the 132kV Blackstone Substation yard back in 2010 due to mining activity in the area which finished in the 1970s,” Ariane said.

“Initial excavations were unable to locate natural ground, leading to a major exercise in importing suitable fill, and compacting for the new substation. Due to the coal content spontaneous combustion was also a potential issue so heat probes were used to monitor ground temperatures."
