Powerlink is planning to reinforce the high voltage transmission connection between our existing Bouldercombe and Larcom Creek substations.
The project will reinforce electricity supply to the Gladstone region and increase network capacity and reliability to service the evolving industry in this area
Existing easements will be used where possible to lessen impacts of this reinforcement project.
The project is approximately 95 km and divided into four sections A–D. In Sections A and B, the proposed 275kV transmission line will be constructed within existing Powerlink easements. Section C requires easement widening to support the new line. Section D involves the establishment of the new Gladstone West Substation and the development of one new 275kV line using a mix of new easements and existing vacant easement.
To connect the proposed line, expansion works will be required at both Bouldercombe and Larcom Creek substations. If approved, the works would be carried out on Powerlink owned land.
The Bouldercombe to Larcom Creek Transmission Line Reinforcement Project will be delivered as part of the Gladstone Project.
Powerlink acquired land for a new substation and is in the early stages of planning. For planning and environmental approval purposes, this substation is part of the Bouldercombe to Larcom Creek Transmission Line Reinforcement Project.
Powerlink has been undertaking early desktop and field studies (such as ecological studies) to inform the project’s feasibility and approval pathway. The findings of these initial investigations have been summarised in two corridor reports. To read these reports, please visit the project’s community hub.
Powerlink is now collating and considering feedback received on this recommended corridor. A Final Corridor Selection Report is currently being prepared, detailing the final transmission corridor for Section D.
We are also working with the relevant Federal and State government departments regarding the appropriate planning and environmental approvals pathway for this project.
We will continue engaging with landholders, Traditional Owners, the wider community and other stakeholders as planning progresses.
