Overview

Powerlink is currently undertaking refit work on the existing 275kV Palmwoods to Woolooga transmission line.

The 90 kilometre-long line has been in service for more than 45 years and requires refitting to ensure the ongoing safe, reliable and cost effective supply of electricity to the Sunshine Coast region.

The project involves refitting 206 transmission towers. Construction activities include replacing insulators and steelwork (such as nuts and bolts) on the towers. This refit work will extend the line’s technical service life for around 20 years.

Helicopters may be used in locations where access to transmission towers is constrained. Using helicopters reduces impacts on nearby properties and ground-level vegetation.

All activities will be undertaken in accordance with agreed property entry conditions and Powerlink's Land Access Protocol. Our crews will conduct this work with as little disruption as possible to landholders and the community. Project works will also comply with rigorous environmental management requirements.

Status

On-ground refit work is to be completed between mid 2019 and mid 2023 (weather dependent). These activities will not result in any planned outages to power supply.

Powerlink will work closely with landholders within the project footprint to keep them informed of our activities as the project progresses. We thank landholders and other stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during these important works.
