More than 20 apprenticeship opportunities next year with Powerlink are now open with positions available in Townsville, Gladstone and Brisbane.
Chief Executive Paul Simshauser said Powerlink is training the tradies of the future.
“An apprenticeship can set you up for life,” he said.
Joining Powerlink as an apprentice can be the start of such a rewarding career.
“There is so much opportunity for growth within the industry while also contributing to such a critical part of Queenslanders’ every day lives.”
Second year apprentice Dan, based in Gladstone, was a retail manager prior to joining Powerlink to undertake a Communications and Control apprenticeship.
“It’s the best job I’ve had so far,” he said.
“Comms and Control is where two systems intersect – telecoms is how we communicate with our substations and equipment, while control systems are used to operate various pieces of equipment across our substations and wider network.
“No two days are the same and you’re always learning in a supportive team.
“If you have the chance to, do it. Just apply and you won’t look back.”
Powerlink offers a competitive package for apprentices which includes:
- Four-year program completing a nationally recognised qualification (Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, Certificate III in ESI – Transmission Overhead or Certificate III in Electronics and Communications)
- All college fees covered by Powerlink
- Toolkit, PPE and uniform all provided
- Rotations through various business areas with different technical specialisations
In 2026, apprenticeships across three different streams are available.
Electrical apprenticeships are available across the substation and secondary systems streams, while a Communications and Control apprenticeship is available in the secondary systems stream.
