Two Central Queensland transmission projects have reached an important milestone with community consultation now underway.
Engagement on the Calvale to Calliope River Transmission Line Reinforcement Project and the Banana Range Wind Farm Connection Project will occur in December as part of the next stage of project approvals.
Both projects are going through the Queensland Government’s Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID) process, managed by the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning.
Powerlink’s Executive General Manager Major Projects Ian Lowry said the commencement of the MID consultation for the projects was an important step forward.
“We know that the Central Queensland region is key to ensuring the reliability of the state’s power system,” Mr Lowry said.
“Network reinforcement works like the Calvale to Calliope River Transmission Line Reinforcement Project are critical for preparing the network for the changing energy landscape of the future.
“Another key focus for Powerlink is connecting new energy generation like the Banana Range Wind Farm into the grid, which will ultimately support industry across Central Queensland.”
The Powerlink team will be available to answer questions about the projects at the below drop-in sessions:
The Calvale to Calliope River Transmission Line Reinforcement Project involves constructing a new 87km long double circuit 275kV transmission line between the Calvale Substation (near Callide Power Station) and the Calliope River Substation (near Gladstone).
The Banana Range Wind Farm Connection Project involves constructing a new 44km long double circuit transmission line from EDF’s Banana Range Wind Farm site about 20km west of Biloela to the Calvale Substation, along with a new substation at the Banana Range Wind Farm site, and expansion works around the Calvale Substation.
