Opportunities on offer for regional businesses as part of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan were a focus of the North, North West Queensland Regional Community Forum held in Ingham.

Powerlink is constructing the transmission line from Genex’s Kidston project to Guybal Munjan substation in Mount Fox - a key part of the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.

Local supplier Ingham Concrete - Icon, has been engaged to provide concrete batch plant and concrete supplies for the construction of the Guybal Munjan Substation at Mount Fox. The concrete batch plant which is now operational on site will be mixing approximately 1,200 cubic metres of concrete, negating the need for multiple heavy vehicles to drive Mount Fox Range to deliver concrete to the substation site.

Powerlink Chief Executive Paul Simshauser said Powerlink has been very proactive with its principal contractor UGL to ensure local suppliers can be engaged on the project.

“There’s a wealth of skill and experience in regional areas like Ingham, and it’s very important that we provide opportunities to work on significant projects like the Genex Kidston Connection Project,” Mr Simshauser said.

“We’re thrilled to have local suppliers like Ingham Concrete on-board to help us to deliver the project while also supporting the local economy and community.”

Regional Forum Co-chair Member for Mundingburra Les Walker said there were huge opportunities to create good jobs for local businesses through our Energy and Jobs Plan and the construction of Copperstring 2032 and the SuperGrid.

“That’s why it’s great to have local suppliers like Ingham Concrete on-board to help us to deliver our plans while also supporting the local economy and community,” Mr Walker said.

Regional Forum Co-chair and Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper said the Kidston connection project was helping to deliver good jobs for local businesses as well as renewable energy for Queensland.

“It’s the Palaszczuk Government that is investing in our future through projects like this and Copperstring 2032 which we know will support both critical mineral projects and the development of more renewable energy sources,” Mr Harper said.
