More than 100 people have attended Powerlink’s first regional Transmission Network Forum held yesterday at Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre.

The forum brought together government, industry and community representatives to discuss the important role that Central Queensland will play in the state’s future power system.

Powerlink’s Chief Executive Paul Simshauser said the forum was an opportunity to outline Powerlink’s portfolio of projects in Central Queensland.

“Our projects in Central Queensland are a key priority for Powerlink,” he said.

“With industries evolving and new power generation sources wanting to connect to the network, it’s important Powerlink is open about its plans to ensure industry is supported and Queenslanders have access to reliable electricity.

“It is also important for us to share the challenges and opportunities facing transmission and how we are driving value for Queenslanders.”

Executive General Manager of Major Projects Ian Lowry outlined how Powerlink is maximising opportunities for Central Queensland businesses and communities.

“A key part of our project delivery is ensuring we are delivering local benefits for the communities in which we will operate.

“We also want to maximise local participation in our project work by engaging with local businesses to be part of our supply chain, access training programs and receive support for capability development.

“We received 965 responses from businesses with around 40% from local businesses, which is pleasing to see.

“Powerlink has recently put an expression of interest out to market for our Principal Contractor for access and clearing works for the first stage of our works from Callide to Calliope River.

“Our work in the region is just getting started and we are committed to bringing the community and industry on the journey with us.”
