Overview

Powerlink has been engaged by CS Energy to connect Brigalow Gas Peaking Power Station, a new 400MW natural gas peaking power station, to the transmission network.

The connection point is east of Powerlink’s Banana Bridge Substation located on the existing Kogan Creek Power Station site.

To support this connection, Powerlink will upgrade parts of its existing network and construct a short new transmission line to ensure the power station can be connected safely and reliably.

Powerlink’s scope of work includes:

  • constructing a new 275kV transmission line, approximately 2km in length, to connect the power station to the network
  • installing a new feeder bay and upgrading Banana Bridge Substation so it can operate more independently and reliably within the network.

Status

The project is currently in the last stages of design.

Construction is expected to commence in Q2 2026, with completion anticipated in Q4 2027.

Once operational in 2028, the 400MW gas peaking plant will be capable of reaching full output within five minutes, providing fast, reliable energy to support more than 150,000 Queensland homes during periods of peak electricity demand.
