Powerlink has been engaged by Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners to connect Stage 3 of the Supernode Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to the transmission network at South Pine. Stage 3 is a 260MW, four-hour battery system.
This marks another key milestone for the Quinbrook’s Supernode project, following the successful energisation of Stages 1 and 2.
Powerlink’s scope includes upgrading the South Pine Substation with a new 275kV feeder and coupler bay, as well as constructing a new 530 metre-long underground cable to connect the BESS to our transmission network.
Construction has commenced and is expected to be completed by Q2 2027.
Once complete, the three Supernode stages will collectively deliver up to 780MW/2080MWh of energy storage at a critical location within Powerlink’s network.
