Powerlink is planning to build approximately 80km of new 275 kV high voltage transmission line between the existing Bouldercombe Substation and a proposed Gladstone West Substation.
Existing easements and co-location alongside existing easements and transmission lines are being used, where possible, to minimise impacts of this reinforcement project.
Powerlink also plans to acquire an easement between the proposed Gladstone West Substation and the existing Larcom Creek Substation. While construction of a transmission line in this section is not currently planned, securing the easement will preserve this strategically important corridor for future development and support the long-term reliability and security of electricity supply to the Gladstone region.
The Bouldercombe to Larcom Creek Transmission Line Reinforcement Project will be delivered as part of the Gladstone Project.
Powerlink is applying for planning approval for this project under the Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID) process, the pathway used for community-supporting infrastructure projects. We expect to lodge our MID Proposal Report in late 2026, with a formal consultation period expected in early 2027.
We are also preparing to refer the project to the National Environmental Protection Agency under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). We are aiming to submit this referral in late 2026.
Landholders, Traditional Owner groups, the community and other stakeholders will have opportunities to provide input throughout both approval processes.
