Students at Greenvale State School have embarked on a trip to NSW and ACT – with some leaving Greenvale for the first time ever - courtesy of a $25,000 donation by Powerlink’s Genex Kidston Connection project.

Over a week-long trip in early August, eleven Year 5 & 6 students visited nationally significant sites to learn more about Australia’s people and its history.

Project Director Tony Janas said it meant a lot to be able to provide opportunities to communities who have been supporting the construction of the Genex Kidston Connection project.

“To be able to give kids in these communities an experience they wouldn’t ordinarily have is just one way we can give back,” he said.

“Some had never travelled outside their local Shire and have now visited two other states.

“We hope this trip provided an opportunity for them to learn and be inspired to pursue further education.”

Greenvale is home to around 300 permanent residents and is a central point for the new transmission line being built for the Genex Kidston Connection project.

Students visited the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Conservatorium of Music, Art Gallery, Federal Parliament and the Australian War Memorial.

Principal Shirley Close said the students will also complete assignments on their trip to the southern States.

“This is a life-changing experience for them and would be incredibly hard to deliver without the donation from Powerlink Queensland,” she said.

“We are grateful to Powerlink team for their support.”
