Businesses across Central Queensland have less than two weeks to express their interest in working on a major energy infrastructure project in Central Queensland.

More than 100 local businesses have expressed their interest to date over the 54 works packages available.

Indigenous businesses are particularly encouraged to apply.

Powerlink spokesperson Chris Garlick said 169 expressions of interest were submitted from more than 100 local businesses.

“Central Queensland businesses make up a third of all interest with 63% located in Gladstone, 24% from Rockhampton and 5% from Banana,” Mr Garlick said.

“We are also encouraging Indigenous businesses to look at the packages and be involved in the project.

“This is an opportunity to showcase your expertise and contribute to a project of state-wide significance.”

Powerlink is in the process of appointing a primary contractor to lead the reinforcement of its transmission network in Central Queensland.

Businesses who have expressed an interest through this process will be introduced to Powerlink’s primary contractor, once appointed.

To ensure their information can be shared, interested suppliers need to have registered through the ICN Gateway.

“Of all the local suppliers who have applied so far, more than a third have worked in Powerlink’s supply chain already,” Mr Garlick said.

“We are committed to engaging even more local businesses to build the capabilities and resilience of local economies.

This is an opportunity to be part of a project that will have lasting benefits for Queensland's electricity infrastructure and local economic growth.

Applications close April 30.
