Thousands of Queenslanders will have the opportunity to give their views on energy usage, electric vehicles and emerging technologies following the launch of Australia’s most comprehensive study of household energy use.

The Queensland Household Energy Survey is run annually by Powerlink in conjunction with Energex and Ergon Energy, as part of the Energy Queensland group.

The survey provides valuable insights into current and future energy trends.

Minister for Energy Mick de Brenni called on Queenslanders to share their views on items like rooftop solar, household and community batteries and electric vehicles.

“This annual survey helps our network operators in Queensland to deliver a power system that meets the future needs of Queenslanders,” Mr de Brenni said.

“Input from Queenslanders will help them plan for the industry’s rapidly evolving future.”

Powerlink Chief Executive Paul Simshauser said Queenslanders continue to be ahead of the game in embracing the latest energy efficiency technology and taking control of their energy use.

“Previous surveys have shown that Queenslanders are very keen to adopt new technology, such as home energy management systems, and this insight helps us deliver better solutions for the future,” Mr Simshauser said.

“Our focus is on being in a better position to meet our customer and communities’ needs now and in the future.”

Energy Queensland Chief Executive Officer Rod Duke said the insights from customers would help steer the future direction of the electricity grid, as more Queenslanders choose electric vehicles, rooftop solar and household battery energy storage systems.

“This is a comprehensive survey that, over the past decade, has provided us granular information on how Queenslanders see their energy usage evolving in the immediate to long-term future,” Mr Duke said.

“It builds on the database our engineers use to plan, design, build and augment a network that will power a growing population and support new technology.

“We’re committed to delivering safe, affordable, secure and sustainable energy solutions to our customers across Queensland and we encourage as many people as possible to have their say to ensure the supply and service provided by the electricity networks continues to meet their expectations.”

Queenslanders keen on having their say on the future of the state’s electricity industry can participate in the survey and have the chance to win one of ten $100 gift cards. The survey closes Monday 18 April 2022.
