Overview

The MacIntyre Wind Precinct is a proposed renewable development located south-west of Warwick being developed by Acciona in partnership with CleanCo.

At 1,026MW, the wind power precinct will be one of the largest onshore wind farms in the world – 923.4MW for Acciona’s MacIntyre Wind Farm and 102.6MW for CleanCo’s Karara Wind Farm. Construction for the project started in early 2022, which will include 180 turbines.

Visit acciona.com.au/projects/macintyre-wind-farm for more information on the project.

Status

Powerlink has signed an agreement to connect the MacIntyre Wind Precinct to the Queensland transmission grid. As part of this work, we will be constructing 65 kilometres of brand new transmission line and building two new switching stations.

As part of our early works agreement with Acciona, we undertook preliminary activities including engaging with landholders and other stakeholders about next steps, and undertaking remaining technical, environmental and cultural heritage assessment work.

Construction works commenced in May 2022, and will continue for a period of 18 to 24 months, subject to good weather and site conditions.

Get involved

We are committed to ongoing genuine and timely engagement with landholders and local communities to support development and delivery of renewable projects connecting to our transmission network.

Powerlink, together with Acciona and our principal contractor UGL, invited landholders, community members and local businesses to attend our information sessions in Leyburn, Karara, Inglewood and Warwick, between 14-17 March 2022.

The sessions provided the community a chance to meet with the project team, ask questions about the project. It also provided local businesses an opportunity to find out more about the procurement needs and opportunities available.

Sub-contracting opportunities on the project include vegetation and access works, machine and equipment hire, cleaning services, waste management and recycling, and much more.

If you are looking for employment opportunities or wanting to supply to the project, please contact UGL's Procurement Manager:
